Hilary M. Weston was an ardent, lifelong supporter of Canadian writers and literature. She believed that the art of writing in its many forms is essential to understanding our world and each other. Herself an author of three books, Mrs. Weston created the Hilary Weston Writers’ Trust Prize for Nonfiction which is given annually for excellence in Canadian literary nonfiction. More recently she helped create the Hilary Weston International Award to bring the world’s best nonfiction writers to Canada, fostering dialogue between leading international authors and Canadian non-fiction authors and audiences.

The gift from The Hilary and Galen Weston Foundation will help broaden the prize’s reach and impact by expanding year-round programming and support for Canada’s established and emerging literary voices.
