Anne Michaels has been named the winner of the 2024 Giller Prize for her novel, Held, published by McClelland & Stewart, taking home $100,000.

Today the Giller Prize announced its shortlist for Canada’s pre-eminent literary award for Canadian fiction. This year’s Giller Prize shortlist celebrates five of the country’s top authors as it marks its 31st anniversary raising the profiles of literary fiction writers from all across the country.
Twelve outstanding Canadian authors have been named to the 2024 Giller Prize longlist. The 12 titles were chosen from a field of more than 100 books submitted by publishers across Canada.
The Giller Foundation and Mantella Corporation have teamed up to create the Giller Mantella Scholarship. The scholarship is for Black, Indigenous and racialized students across Canada graduating high school and interested in continued education in creative writing and literature. The scholarship will award $10,000 to three deserving recipients each year to further their education.

Sarah Bernstein has been named the winner of the 2023 Scotiabank Giller Prize for her novel, Study for Obedience published by Knopf Canada, taking home $100,000 courtesy of Scotiabank.
