Elana Rabinovitch, Executive Director of the Scotiabank Giller Prize, today announced the five-member jury panel for the 2024 Scotiabank Giller Prize.
It is with great pleasure and pride that we announce the 2023 Scotiabank Giller Prize jury, an extraordinary constellation of readers and writers selected to mark the 30th anniversary of the Prize.
The first power panel of 2023 is entitled Judging a Book by its Cover and will feature the artists behind the covers of the 2022 shortlisted books. The conversation will be moderated by Elana Rabinovitch, Executive Director of the Scotiabank Giller Prize and Giller Foundation.
For the third year in a row, The Giller Foundation has paired the author of each of the 14 longlisted titles from 2022 with shortlisted and longlisted authors from prior years, academics and members of last year's jury.
And what a year it was! Twenty-twenty-two brought dazzling literary voices to the fore, with bold, inspired prose that exploded onto the page. You need only glance at this year's shortlist to see the brave new worlds these authors built. All soaked in fierce imagination with broadly ranging themes including the search for home, the indelible anguish of grief, future worlds and the blaze of global, present-day disruption. And love. Always love.
The 2018 jury members are: Canadian writer and journalist Kamal Al-Solaylee, playwright and VP of advancement for the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) Maxine Bailey, American writer John Freeman, English novelist Philip Hensher, and Canadian author Heather O'Neill.
