Scotiabank Giller Prize Spotlight: David Bergen

David Bergen’s short story collection, Here The Dark has been longlisted for the 2020 Scotiabank Giller Prize. He has published eight novels and a collection of short stories. His work has been nominated for the Governor General’s Literary Award, the Impac Dublin Literary Award, and a Pushcart Prize. He won the Giller Prize for his novel The Time in Between. In 2018, he was given the Writers’ Trust Matt Cohen Award: In Celebration of a Writing Life.

Scotiabank Giller Prize Spotlight: Souvankham Thammavongsa

Souvankham Thammavongsa’s short story collection, How to Pronounce Knife has been longlisted for the 2020 Scotiabank Giller Prize. She is the author of four poetry books: Light, winner of the Trillium Book Award for Poetry; Found; Small Arguments, winner of the ReLit Award; and, most recently, Cluster

Scotiabank Giller Prize Spotlight: Shani Mootoo

Shani Mootoo’s novel, Polar Vortex has been longlisted for the 2020 Scotiabank Giller Prize. Shani was born in Ireland, grew up in Trinidad, and lives in Canada. She holds an MA in English from the University of Guelph, writes fiction and poetry, and is a visual artist whose work has been exhibited locally and internationally.

The Giller Foundation Donates $25,000 to the Indigenous Literary Studies Association and Diaspora Dialogues

Today, The Giller Foundation announced two donations to writers’ groups focused on inclusivity and diversity. A donation of $25,000 will be given to the Indigenous Literary Studies Association (ILSA) and another $25,000 to Diaspora Dialogues. Both organizations focus on supporting, mentoring and nurturing writers who are Black, Indigenous and people of colour.
