In 2005, the Giller Prize teamed up with Scotiabank to create the Scotiabank Giller Prize. It is the first-ever co-sponsorship for Canada’s richest literary award for fiction. The purse increased from $25,000 to $50,000 and grew again in 2008 to $70,000. In 2014, the purse increased to $140,000 courtesy of Scotiabank. The winning author receives $100,000 and each finalist receives $10,000.

“Almost 10 years into our partnership, we could not be more delighted with Scotiabank’s support of the prize, and their dedication to promoting Canadian literature and culture,” said Prize founder, Jack Rabinovitch. “This partnership has benefited Canadian literature greatly by ensuring that the prize will live on into the future, helping to promote Canadian authors to readers everywhere for years to come.”
